“For thus said the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel, ‘In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.’”
Meditation
There is a kind of weariness that does not come from doing too much,
but from never truly coming to rest within.
A person can be still on the outside,
and yet keep running within.
Even in prayer, the heart can remain tense,
still trying to hold everything together.
We often think strength comes from doing more,
moving faster, or gaining clarity.
But God speaks in a different way—
your strength is found in quietness and trust.
This runs against our instincts.
When nothing seems to move, we try harder.
When the future feels uncertain, we grow anxious.
When God seems silent, we feel the need to act.
Yet His invitation remains: return, and rest.
To return is not only to step away from outward busyness,
but to step back from that inward insistence
that we must control and manage everything.
To rest is not passivity,
but a gentle releasing—
letting go of the need to prove, to sustain, to secure.
You do not need to strive to feel safe.
You do not need to control outcomes to steady your future.
True strength is this:
to become quiet in the unknown,
to remain trusting without answers.
God is not rushing you forward.
He is waiting for you to come back.
Prayer
Lord,
You see the restlessness within me—
how even when I stop, I have not truly come to rest.
I confess that I often build my strength on my own effort.
I use busyness to cover unease,
and control to resist uncertainty.
But today, You are inviting me back.
Bring me out of this inner tension,
out of the impulse that tells me I must keep doing something.
Teach me to rest in You—
not as an escape,
but as a place where my strength is renewed.
When I begin to grasp for control again, remind me to release.
When anxiety rises, draw me back into Your peace.
Let me learn to be still in uncertainty,
to trust in waiting,
and to believe that You are working, even in silence.
Today, I choose to slow down,
to loosen my grip,
and to stop carrying what was never mine to hold.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Practice
Set aside a small moment today—even just five minutes.
Put away distractions.
Do not try to solve anything.
Simply become still, and gently say within:
“Lord, I rest in You.”
When thoughts begin to rise,
do not resist them—just quietly return again.
Stay there.
