“The heart of man plans his way,

but the LORD establishes his steps.”

We naturally want to make the future clear.

We plan, calculate, prepare, and imagine—

and these give us a sense of security.

As if thinking carefully enough

will ensure things unfold as expected.

Yet reality often disrupts that sense of control.

Some things do not happen according to plan.

Some paths shift along the way.

And then anxiety begins to grow.

Uncertainty itself is not the real problem.

What unsettles us is the belief

that everything must be under our control.

But this verse gently lifts that burden:

You may plan,

but it is the Lord who establishes your steps.

This means

you are not responsible for every outcome.

You are free to plan carefully,

to prepare faithfully,

but you are not required to control every detail.

God’s guidance rarely comes as a full explanation in advance.

More often, it unfolds step by step as you walk.

So you do not need perfect clarity

before you move forward.

Peace does not come from a guaranteed future,

but from knowing God is already there.

Today, you may still face uncertainty.

Some decisions remain unresolved.

Some directions are not yet clear.

Yet you can continue walking with what is incomplete.

Not because you have everything figured out,

but because you trust

that God is guiding your steps.

Prayer

Lord,

I often try to hold the future in my own hands,

and it leaves me anxious.

Help me to find peace in uncertainty,

trusting that You are guiding each step.

Above my planning and effort,

teach me to surrender the outcomes to You.

Even when I cannot see clearly,

help me continue to follow.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

Reflection

• What uncertainty has been weighing on me recently?

• Am I willing to let God guide my steps?

Today’s Practice

When you begin to worry about the future today,

pause and quietly say:

“Lord, You guide my steps.”

Then continue what you are doing.

Let trust walk with you through uncertainty.
