“Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you;
he will never permit the righteous to be moved.”
We are used to carrying things ourselves.
We may hand situations to God,
yet keep the emotions within.
We may pray about a problem,
yet still hold it tightly in our hearts.
So we say we have surrendered,
while continuing to carry the same weight.
Over time, it becomes exhausting.
“Casting” is not something that comes naturally.
To us, holding on feels responsible;
letting go can feel like avoidance.
But this verse describes a very direct action—
not sharing the weight,
but releasing it.
This means there are burdens
you were never meant to carry alone.
You can think,
you can act,
you can take responsibility—
but you do not need to carry the pressure in your heart.
True surrender is not a one-time prayer.
It is choosing, again and again,
to release what you have picked up once more.
Today, you may still face the same situation,
the same responsibilities,
even the same pressures.
But you can face them differently—
not by carrying everything alone.
God does not promise that everything
will immediately feel lighter.
But He does promise this:
He will sustain you.
So today, you do not need to resolve every burden at once.
When you notice the tension returning,
gently place it back into His hands.
Prayer
Lord,
I often say I surrender,
yet continue to hold on inside.
Teach me how to truly release my burdens
instead of carrying them by my own strength.
When anxiety rises again,
remind me to bring everything back to You.
Let me learn, through surrender,
what it means to live unburdened in You.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
Reflection
• What burden am I still carrying right now?
• Am I willing to release it to God again and again?
Today’s Practice
When you feel pressure rising today,
pause and quietly say:
“Lord, I give this to You.”
Even for a few seconds,
let there be a place
where the burden leaves your hands.
