“Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.”
Many times, we begin to do the “right things.”
We pray, read Scripture, sit quietly, reflect—
everything seems to be in place.
But over time,
these can slowly become habits,
even tasks to complete.
We may be doing what is right,
yet not truly drawing near to God.
Outward actions can continue,
while inwardly, there is still distance.
That is why Scripture does not only tell us what to do,
but gently invites us to something deeper:
Draw near to God.
To “draw near”
is not just an action,
but a direction of relationship.
It means that we are not only doing spiritual things,
but actually turning toward Him,
being present with Him.
We can read a passage
without allowing it to enter our hearts.
We can say many words in prayer
without truly coming before God.
But when we intentionally draw near,
even in simple ways,
something in the relationship becomes real again.
God is not waiting for you to do more.
He is waiting for you
to come more honestly.
Today, you do not need to add more.
You do not need to make things more complete.
Simply take a small moment,
pause,
and bring your heart a little closer.
Because real change
does not begin with doing more,
but with drawing nearer.
Prayer
Lord,
many times I do spiritual things
without truly drawing near to You.
Teach me not just to complete actions,
but to bring my heart honestly before You.
In the quiet,
help me learn what it means
to be with You.
Not to do more,
but to come closer in truth.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
Reflection
• Am I doing the “right things” without truly drawing near to God?
• How can I come more honestly before Him today?
Today’s Practice
During your prayer or quiet time today,
do not rush to say many words.
Pause for a few seconds,
then simply say:
“Lord, here I am.”
Let relationship
matter more than content.
