“Behold, I am doing a new thing;
now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
I will make a way in the wilderness
and rivers in the desert.”
After experiencing hurt or failure,
it is easy to become defined by the past.
Memories of pain, regret, or disappointment
can diminish our expectation for the future,
and sometimes even make us afraid to move forward.
Yet God’s work is never limited by our past.
He declares, “I am doing a new thing.”
This “new thing” is not merely a change in circumstances,
but a renewal within our lives—
creating a way in places that seem barren
and bringing provision where there appears to be none.
The wilderness and the desert often symbolize
seasons of loneliness, confusion, scarcity, and uncertainty.
But it is precisely in these places
that God reveals His creative and redemptive power.
Many times, the reason we struggle to move forward
is not because there is no path ahead,
but because we are still holding tightly to the past.
When we choose to release what has been
and trust that God is at work,
hope begins to rise again within us.
Today, you may still find yourself in a “wilderness”
or a “desert” season.
But remember, this is not the end—
it may well be the very place
where God is preparing something new.
You do not need to see the entire path ahead.
You only need to trust
that God is already making a way.
Prayer
Lord,
thank You for being the God who makes all things new.
When I feel limited by my past,
help me to see the hope You have placed before me.
Give me the courage to release what lies behind
and to trust that You are doing a new work in my life.
Even in seasons that feel like a wilderness or desert,
help me to recognize the paths and provision You are preparing.
May my heart be filled with Your promises
as I step forward into the future You are leading me toward.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
Reflection
• Am I still being held back by past experiences?
• How can I view my future today through the lens of hope?
Today’s Practice
Take a few quiet moments today
to entrust a past experience that still troubles you to God.
Quietly declare:
“Lord, I believe You are doing a new thing.”
Let hope
become the strength that leads you forward.
